Clarifying accusation on Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani

the World leader of the Naqshbandi Sufi order

Q: There is an issue with the Naqshbandi Silsilah...when we look at certain silsilah we find that Mowlana Shaykh Nazim is not found in it?

There are so many branches in the Naqshbandi Sufi order, such as Naqshbandi Qadiriya, Naqshbandi Mujaddidiya, Naqshbandi Uwaisiya, Naqshbandi Aslamiya etc and also Naqshbandi Haqqaniya. The Naqshbandi Haqqaniya and other silsilah differ from the GrandShaykh Ismail sherwani Q/ Mujaddid Alf ath-Thani Sayyidina Ahmad al-Sirhindi al-Faruqi & few other grand Shaykhs.


We will present more information on this.

Naqshbandiyya-Haqqaniyya is the top of the Golden Chain but under it are many prior branches. There are literally hundreds – if not thousands – of branches of the Naqshbandiyya from the time of Mujaddid Alf ath-Thani Sayyidina Ahmad al-Sirhindi al-Faruqi, known also as Imam Rabbani. After him the Tariqah spread far and wide, and through various caliphas took on different branches. The same happened with our Grandshaykh Khalid al-Baghdadi, so you find sub-branches of the Naqshbandiyya-Khalidiyya all over the world.

Q:Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani's some predictions have not come true?

The Awliya speak from various stations which many kinds of meanings or knowledge can be derived and all cannot comprehend them, adding to this Awliya may speak from one particular time or situation and Allah also has an aspect of changing the Qadr as HE wishes. So not mere Mowlana Shaykh Nazim but to many Awliya this may happen through various reasons and wisdom which doesn't mean the Awliya are lying but it means there is something beyond  our comprehensions.

According to Shaykh Seyeduna Abdul Wahhabus Sha'rani/ Mawlana Shaykh Nazim & Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, Hafiz Ehsan Qadiri "There are 12,000 wisdoms when the Awliya even raise their finger" then what about their further actions and words? Can we easily give an explanation for them? Some of the "Instant Muftis" even try to give their own thoughts on the words of the Awliya from what they know when they themselves have not sat with any such people.

Some take various uncompleted quotes from Mowlana Shaykh Nazims talks, very specially his Mercy Oceans book series and they simply quote certain incidents which didn't take place, such as of a upcoming war or a country like Ceylon sinking as he mentioned sometime ago  etc and none of this took place and the response is our belief of Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqanis sayings is not based on One or Two incidents but its based on what our shaykh has selected us and of we being given to him on the days of promises and its every mureed to keep trust in his Shaykh




Q:There are sunni scholars/ shaykhs who are against Mowlana  Shaykh Nazim

Its questionable as to how a so called "SUNNI" shaykh or even a scholar will do that for an Ahlul bayth seyed (a member of the prophets household/lineage).

We are not aware of such anyone who's against and if they have any clarification they may visit him with adhab on lefke, Cyprus and clarify what they want.

Alhamdulillah All Ahlussunnath wal Jama ulema have great respect to such senior scholars and for anyone to have any hardcore major issue with Mowlana Shaykh Nazim Al Haqqani will surely be having a Wahhabi/Salafi/Deobondi backing for sure.

Q: Why is it that Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is referred as Sulthan al Awliya?

This is a rank of the present leaders of Awliya and this is not a self claimed rank but rather which was granted by his Shaykh, Mowlana Sulthan al Awliya Shaykh Abdullah al Faiz Dajethani Q about 40 years ago!

However if anyone has doubts on this they may clarify the matter with any living or the passed away saints or by doing Isthikara.

Nevertheless there's no obligatory in Shariah to accept this as for everyone their Shaykh is a Sulthan or a Quthub,so have adhab towards all and specially to you shaykh or master whom ever it is and he will be your sulthan and let life go on, it will be no point to argue upon this and if anyone will differ from this belief its upon them as for the Naqshbandi Mureeds its upon them to believe what they want.

Assalaamualaykum , I have a question related to the spiritual station of Al Ghawthiyya. I was reading that during the time of Shaykh Abdullah Daghistani (ra) He was considered to be the highest ranking Saint by many. But He lived during the same time of a Shaykh by the name of Shaykh Muhammad Ahmad Al Mahi Bukhari (ra) from Madinah Munawwara (originally from sudan). He was also known to be the Highest ranking saint of that same time by many. Is it possible for more than one person to occupy the same station at the same time?
Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
No two saints may co-occupy one station at the same time. There is only one who shall be, and at that time it was Grandshaykh ‘Abdullah al-Fa’iz al-Daghistani. There may however be many saints of very high spiritual rank and known by different names or accolades. In our time however, the Sultan of all Saints is Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani (may Allah gives him long life and happiness!).

Assalaamoualaikoum
I am writing to you cause i would like to ask a question about the title given to Sheik Nazim. I have great respect for the Sheik. I have read on this web site that the title given to Sheik Nazim is Sultan ul Awliya.
I have read a lot about wali and sheiks and as far as i know there is only one and only sultan ul Awliya ( the cheif of all wali, the master of all wali, the rose of Baghdad) who is Sultan ul Awliya Hazrat Sheik Abdul Qadir al Hasani al Husayni al Jeelani Al Baghdadi (RA).
He is supreme to all wali till the day of judgement.
May someone reply to me?

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Allah sanctify his spirit) represents Shaykh Abd al-Qadir Gilani (RA) in our time and also descends from him on his father’s side.

Alaykum salam,
From what I know Mawlana Shaykh Nazim never called himself that, but only his teacher Mawlana Shaykh Abd Allah Daghistani, Allah sanctify their secrets. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham said that the latter could complete two khatams with every inspiration and expiration of breath. As for Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s level in that respect, it has not been disclosed yet. And yes, the murids do call him that and it is haqq.

Q:There's a video of the Mehdi foundation against Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani

That's one of the poorest videos ever been uploaded where the grandson of Gohar shah ( a false mehdi) goes on for 20-25mins on a titled called "exposing Shaykh Nazim" and there's not a single effort he has done in that but rather to keep meddling with a laptop and drink a Pepsi...(Yes he was drinking the jewish funded Pepsi) and claiming to be a grandson of imaam Mehdi.

It will be a waste of time responding to them through videos or anything because for the ones who know their agenda will know the truth and for the ones who don't know who is Gohar Sha need not even refer about him.

Gohar sha was a person who was promoted with of course low publicity that he was Imam Mehdi and he had his tragic time with his death and when Mowlana Shaykh Nazim speaks of an Imaam Mahdi alahisalam , he doesn't mean such impostors to be Mehdi!

Sheikh Gohar Shahi claims to be the Imam Mahdi. As mawlana Sheikh Hisham came to take authorisation for zikr from him, shall we follow him when time has come?

There is no might and now power except with Allah they Exalted the Magnificent.

Whoever claimed that Shaykh Hisham came to take dhikr from Gohar Shahi, in fact lied. Gohar Shahi requested to visit Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani at his home in California. Shaykh Hisham did not know this person, and in the tradition of Muslim hospitality, invited him into his home and showed him the respect due to someone who was outwardly a pious scholar and tariqah shaykh. Later false and nonsensical claims that Shaykh Hisham took baya` or took awrad from him are invalid, rather Shaykh Hisham’s impeccable adab is, like Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, to accept wa`zh and even reprimand from anyone, to recite dhikr with anyone and to act like a common person.
As for claims to be Mahdi, if Gohar Shahi had said so to Shaykh Hisham, he would have refuted him there and then. Instead he posed as a Qadiri shaykh. Since Mahdi’s appearance, birth and lineage are well known from many authentic hadith, it is clear that this man is not Mahdi and should withdraw his false claims.
I bear witness to the utter falsehood of these claims as I was present at this meeting.

Q: There is a video on Mowlana Shaykh Nazim swearing and he says about the pen being lifted and he's no more accountable for his deeds?

This is another blow at the Wahhabies/Salafis as Mowlana Shaykh Nazim head on told them off, so they have mis translated some words and uploaded it. If you see the description if this particular video, it is as such that the one who has uploaded the translation also has stated the words are not clear. There is nothing wrong with Mowlana Shaykh Nazim as a Mujthahid as he was the main Mufthi in Cyprus for Islamic rulings.

We whole heartily accept what Mowlana Shaykh Nazim says about the Wahhabies as "khara alaikkum" which means may curse be upon them ( or something similar) and with regarding the matter he is not accountable, we will produce some references from Shariah as follows. 

The response

The following is related on the authority of Anas ibn Malik, Allah is pleased with him: The Messenger of God, blessings and peace upon him said:
"For a newborn child until he reaches the age of discretion, his good deeds are written to the credit of his parents, while his bad deeds are written neither against him nor against his parents. Once he reaches the age of discretion and the pen begins to write [his acts], God the Exalted issues His command to the two angels who accompany him and guard and counsel him.
When he reaches forty years in Islam, God gives him security from three [things]: madness, leprosy and vitiligo.
When he reaches fifty, God makes his reckoning lighter
When he reaches sixty, God grants him to revert to Him as pleases Him.
When he reaches seventy, the inhabitants of Heaven love him
When he reaches eighty, God records his good acts and is lenient with his bad ones.
When he reaches ninety, God forgives him his bygone sins and those to come, allows him to intercede on behalf of his family, and he becomes God's prisoner on the earth .
Then should he be returned to the worst age, so that after having had knowledge he knows nothing, God continues to record as good acts for him those which he used to do knows nothing. God continues to record as good acts for him those which he used to do when he was well, and if he commits an evil act it is not recorded."

This hadith is mentioned by Shaykh Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Abil Qasim al Yamani among the forty hadith has collected regarding the forgiveness of sins that had gone by and sins to come.
A man dies in accordance with what he had lived in, and is resurrected in accordance with what he had died in. [Hadith]

my question is: I heard from a friend that the malaaikah do not record the sins of a person on and after the age of 70 years. Is this true – because I read in the newspapers how people of this age still commit the most astrocious sins possible. (Muslim or non-muslim)
Please help me to understand this.

Answer:

`Alaykum assalam,

The angels do not stop recording. However, a hadith qudsi states: “I feel shy to punish My servant who has worshipped me for 70 years.”

So this is a glad tidings for a Muslim who dies after that age.

"No one reaches forty years in Islam except that Allah protects him from madness, leprosy and leucoderma. When he is fifty, Allah makes easy his reckoning. When he reaches sixty, Allah grants him repentance. And when he reaches seventy, Allah loves him and the inhabitants of the heavens love him. And when he reaches eighty, Allah accepts his good deeds and overlooks his sins. When he reaches ninety, Allah forgives his past and future sins, he is named 'the prisoner of Allah on earth' and is granted intercession (for forgiveness) for his family." (Hasan, Ibn 'Asakir. Ahmad Shakir said in his notes to Al-Musnad (8/23,25): "Its chain is at least Hasan. It is supported with other chains which raise it to the level of Saheeh.")

REFUTING CLAIMS ABOUT THE TARIQA NAQSHBANDIYYA (1)

Then they said – as translated into English:

"And the Seniors of the Tariqa Naqshbandiyya Aliyya Haqqani claim that the sins of Shaykh Muhammad Nazim are no longer being recorded because he has reached the rank of Awliya of Allah. (I.e. the claim that he is infallible – ma‘sum)."

Comments:

1. Neither Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim (1341-1435/1922-2014)—may Allah grant him mercy and give him Jannat al-Firdaws—nor the Seniors of this Tariqa ever said what they are being accused of by anonymous accusers and without evidence. It has been said that “Sourcing (isnad) is part of the religion, and without sourcing, anyone can say anything.”
الإسناد من الدين، ولولا الإسناد لقال من شاء ما شاء.

The Seniors of this Tariqa are three people: our teacher Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani; his brother Shaykh Muhammad Adnan Kabbani; and the son of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, Shaykh Muhammad Adil (hafizahum Allah). None of those three said the above. Nor did Shaykh Nazim ever claim wilaya nor infallibility—subhan Allah!—nor did the above-mentioned three ever claim it for him. As infallibility is only for Prophets, and “a single Prophet is better than all Awliya put together” (Aqida Tahawiyya).
نبيٌّ واحد خيرٌ من جميع الأولياء.

2. On the contrary Shaykh Muhammad Nazim is the one who all his life said: “ I am a weak servant, I am sinful, I am in need of Allah, I am helpless, I ask for repentence, I ask for forgiveness, I am poor were it not for the generosity of Allah.” All that took place was that when he reached the age of ninety (90) years, he made a reference to certain hadiths that gave glad tidings to those who grow old in Islam, and he referred to them as a teaching for people and to commemorate the favors of Allah.

3. Know, therefore, that the Infallible Prophet (saws) said:

o “When the Muslim servant of Allah reaches 50 years of age, Allah makes the Account lenient for him. When he reaches 60, Allah grants him to always turn back to Him. When he reaches 70, those in heaven and on earth love him. When he reaches 80, Allah ratifies his good deeds and erases his bad ones. When he reaches 90, Allah forgives him whatever was in the past of his sins and whatever is yet to come, and he gives him intercession for his relatives and he is recorded in heaven as Allah’s prisoner on earth.” (Ahmad, Abu Ya‘la, al-Tabarani, and others from various Sahaba.)

الْعَبْدُ المُسْلِمُ إِذَا بَلَغَ خَمْسِينَ سَنَةً لَيَّنَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ الْحِسَابَ، وَإِذَا بَلَغَ سِتِّينَ رَزَقَهُ اللهُ الْإِنَابَةَ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِذَا بَلَغَ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً أَحَبَّهُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ، وفي رواية: أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ وَأَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ، فَإِذَا بَلَغَ ثَمَانِينَ سَنَةً ثَبَّتَ اللهُ حَسَنَاتِهِ وَمَحَا سَيِّئَاتِهِ، فَإِذَا بَلَغَ تِسْعِينَ سَنَةً غَفَرَ اللهُ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ وَشَفَّعَهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَكُتِبَ فِي السَّمَاءِ: أَسِيرُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ.

o “Allah says: Truly if My servant—man or woman—grow old in Islam I am too shy to punish them after that with hellfire.” (al-Tabarani, Abu Ya‘la, Ibn Abi al-Dunya and others.)

إِنِّي لَأَسْتَحْيِي مِنْ عَبْدِي وَأَمَتِي يَشِيبَانِ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ ثُمَّ أُعَذِّبُهُمَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فِي النَّارِ.

o “Truly it is part of magnifying the majesty of Allah to honor the one who grew old in Islam.” (Abu Dawud, Ibn Abi Shayba, al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad, al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi.)

إِنَّ مِنْ إِجْلَالِ اللهِ وفي رواية مِنْ تَعْظِيمِ جَلاَلِ اللهِ إِكْرَامَ ذِي الشَّيْبَةِ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ.

o “There are three types of people which only a hypocrite treats lightly: someone who grew old in Islam; someone who possesses Islamic learning; and a just leader.” (Abu Dawud, Ibn Abi Shayba, al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad, al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi.)

ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا يَسْتَخِفُّ بِحَقِّهِمْ إِلَّا مُنَافِقٌ: ذُو الشَّيْبَةِ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ، وَذُو الْعِلْمِ، وَإِمَامٌ مُقْسِطٌ.

4. Therefore whoever wishes to receive the good news let him do so, and let him invoke blessings and salutations on the Prophet since Allah has given Mawlana Shaykh Nazim all three of those attributes—old age in Islam, spiritual knowledge and leadership—and He has also given him more followers and converts to Islam than any other propagator of Islam (da‘i) in the past 100 years. His excellent reputation has reached all the countries of the world through his followers, both before the internet existed and after. If all this is not what can be justly described as characteristic of a wali Allah, then Allah has no awliya. May Allah grant him mercy, honor him and enter him into the vastest paradise. Allah is all-Hearing and He answers. O Allah! Do not deprive us of his ample reward, and do not afflict us with strifes and troubles after him.

Q: What are the Issues of the Habashis having with the Naqshbandis

The Habashis or the followers of Abdullah al hararey of Lebanon are said to be a group deviated from Ahlussunnath wal jama. They have entered many countries like Canada, Australia even Sri Lanka under the disguise of they being against Wahhabism and as once who keep takfir upon Ibn thaymiya but under that disguise they spread their venom.

1. They claim Rasoolallah sallahualahiwasallim was only Bashar and not Noor.

2. They reject ilmul Ghayb

3. They reject the fact on "kaba kawsayni" on our Rasoolallah sallahualahiwasallim not seeing allah in M'raj

4. They believe and also have issued fathawa that our Rasoolallah sallahualahiwasallim is not the 1st creation of Allah and what ever the Hadith which talks about it they make it weak Hadith and reject it.

5. They are against the bareilwi thoughts of such teachings of the great mujadid Imaam Ahmed Raza Khan.

Q:  What are the Issues of the CIFIA-Hydrabadis having with the Naqshbandis

This is a very small group who call themselves as Ahlussunnath wal jama but go against everyone who signed the Amman messege, they not only attack the Naqshbandis but they attack scholars like Habbib Ali Al jiffry Mowlana, Guru Bawa Muhiyadden waliullah and many others.

Anyone may refer their pages online and see how poorly they have presented certain information on the Naqshbandi suhuykhs which has been addressed. They work on a volunteer based system and many members have left them when they came to know that their ideology is to attack scholars under a new concept called "sahih Iman"

Q:Why Wahhabies/Salafis attack shaykh Nazim?

Alhamdulillah other than the great mujadid, Imaam Ahmed Raza Khan the other person to head on collide with the Wahhabies and Salafis was Mowlana Shaykh Nazim. In early 90s he had assigned his khalifa/Deputy Shaykh Hisham Kabbani to address the Wahhabies and this resulted in USA being cleaned up by many hardcore wahhabies!

Shaykh Hisham kabbani spread the islamic teachings and the Sufi teachings around the corner with about 50odd sufi centers leaving no room for Wahhabi extreamism to creep in. Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and many of his other students had written volumes of books exposing Wahhabism and Salafism.

Mowlana Shaykh Nazim not only has given lengthy speeches addressing the Salafis ( please check sufilive.com recordings as ”O salafi Ulema") also Mowlana Shaykh Nazim is the only person who has challenged the Wahhabies/Salafis for a Mubahala challenge, which upto now noone has accepted!

Q: Why is it that so many complaint about the book Mercy Oceans of Mowlana Shaykh Nazim ?

The Wahhabies or Salafis do not know what they talk about as there's no book called Mercy Oceans but rather this is a range of books with various editions on collected speeches given in various countries!

Such as Serendib edition, spring edition, london edition etc, so you may find Wahhabis or the Habashis accusing this book hiding the fact that they will not quote from which books this is taken, they do that because they do not know there are hundreds of books called Mercy Oceans.

Such as some people find fault in the book called Naqshbandi Way, but what we ask is which Naqshbandi way? Printed where?which edition? As in Sri lanka there are already 3 books printed separately and none of the blasphemous accusations are there in this book! 



Why do the Naqshbandi Shuyukhs mingle  with Non Muslims?

Alhamdulillah this is why the Naqshbandi tariqat is one of the spear heads today because it welcomes everyone with Love and our Tariqat is based on companionship!

Once in Sri lanka His Holiness Mowlana Shaykh Adnan Kabbani, khalifa/Deputy of Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani had given a talk in a temple and 3 Buddhist clergy members had embraced Islam!

Therefore I keep saying Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani is not a leader of a tariqat of 50-60 members but He's the leader of the worlds first and last tariqat and is the representative sallallahualahiwasallim! In regards to Shaykh Abdullah Faiz Daghestani Alayhi Rahma being kicked out of the Naqshbandi Tariqa , This was a fabrication of a pseudo-fatwa by the Mufti of Dagestan against Shaykh Abdullah Faiz Daghestani Alayhi Rahma the teacher of Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani in which the Mufti of Dagestan supposedly declares Shaykh Abdullah a heretic. In reality to Shaykh Abdullah left Dagestan in his childhood and was raised in Turkey where he lived all his life until he immigrated to Damascus, so he was completely unknown in Dagestan. This fatwa was declared a fabrication by the historian of Damascus Shaykh Muhammad Muʿtazz al-Subayni.

There was a Made up individual by the name of “Muhammad Zahid al-Naqshbandi” whom people claim to have said of Shaykh Abdullah Faiz Daghestani Alayhi Rahma “he is neither a Sunni nor a Naqshbandi, and he is not connected but disconnected.” In reality this Muhammad Zahid does not exist, and to “narrate” from him is from the craftiness of perjurers, liars and forgers!

Q:- Why do people kiss the Hands of the Naqshbandi Shuyukh?

A:- This is an answer which was given by His Holiness Shyakh Hisham Kabbani to the Wahhabi/Salafi Nasurruddin Albani

Albani's answer: Kissing the hand of an 'aalim has a basis in the Sunnah; however, this basis is one of allowable action, not one of a recommended example. Nowadays in many Islaamic lands, many of the shaykhs do not know the example of the Prophet (S) of shaking hands with his Companions: as Abu Dhar said, "Whenever the Messenger of Allaah (S) met us, he would shake hands with us." These shaykhs only know how to extend their hands to be kissed; as for extending the hand to shake, they have no idea! This sort of kissing in place of shaking hands is not allowed. The Prophet (S) encouraged his ummah, "Any two Muslims who meet and shake hands before parting, their sins fall as leaves fall from a tree in autumn."
Shaykh M. Hisham Kabbani says:
The question is not about Muslim brothers meeting and shaking hands but about the etiquette of the ordinary Muslim meeting the older `alim or scholar of Religion. Similarly, the hadith of the Prophet's meeting the Companions and shaking hands with them does not apply as much as the hadiths of the Companions coming up to the Prophet and kissing his hand do. This is an important difference which is altogether overlooked, whether inadvertently or deliberately, in the above answer. Nor did it escape our notice that Shaykh Albani's reply declares the same thing allowed and yet not allowed at one and the same time.
As for the claim that "Nowadays in many Islaamic lands, many of the shaykhs do not know the example of the Prophet (S) of shaking hands with his Companions" and "These shaykhs only know how to extend their hands to be kissed; as for extending the hand to shake, they have no idea," then this is iftira' -- slanderous fabrication -- of the sort which have been unfortunately accustomed from that source, as Shaykh Hasan `Ali al-Saqqaf amply demonstrated in his compendium of Albani's insults of the `ulama entitled Qamus shata'im al-Albani. Let us repeat the excellent warning our master Mawlana Shaykh Nazim gave concerning the stance of "Salafis" regarding the ethics of respect in Islam: "They want to break the relationship between the Believers and their Teachers in Islam."
Allah ordered the Prophet: "Lower your wing for the believers" (15:88) from which some have inferred the order to show courtesy to Muslims, and He said: "Who magnifies the sacred symbols of Allah, then it is better for him with his Lord" (22:30), and: "Who magnifies the symbols of Allah then it is truly from the piety of hearts" (22:32). The scholars are, after the Prophets, of the greatest symbols of Allah on earth and the receptacles of the Religion. To insult them or seek to lower their image in the eyes of Muslims is a grave sin indeed. To insult a Muslim is one of the Kaba'ir, then what about those who insult their teachers? To insult the awliya' is an even greater enormity, and al-Shafi`i said that the scholars are the foremost awliya'. That is why the Prophet warned strenuously against harming the rights of the scholar in Islam when he said in an authentic hadith: "Whoever does not know the rights of our scholars is not one of my Community" (which Albani authenticated in his Sahih al-targhib 1:44!).
The least that one may say about kissing the hand of the scholar in Islam is what Imam Ahmad said: la ba'sa bihi, there is no harm in it and not add to it needlessly. However, our position and that of Tamim ibn Salama, Sufyan al-Thawri, and the school of Imam Shafi`i including Bayhaqi and Nawawi is that it is Sunna and mustahabb as it shows the necessary ta`zim (magnification) and tawqir (reverence) of a person of religion and knowledge in Islam, and as shown by the narrations, it is closer to the practice of the Companions with the Prophet and the knowledgeable ones among themselves as well as the true Salaf.
The ruling among the authorities that kissing the hand of the scholar is mustahabb is categorically proven by the fact that when Imam Muslim met the Mountain of Hadith Mastership -- Imam Bukhari -- he desired to kiss not merely his hands but his feet. This was not gratuitous behavior on the part of Imam Muslim but an excellent and meritorious display of humbleness and respect on his part. They purposely imitated in this -- and Allah knows best -- Abu `Ubayda when he met `Umar ibn al-Khattab in Jerusalem, and the precedent of those two, who were of the "Ten Promised Paradise" by the Prophet is enough proof in itself that it is Sunna.
It is authentically recorded that others of the true Ahl al-hadith did this also, such as the Tabi`is Khaythama ibn `Abd al-Rahman al-Ju`fi (d. 85) and Talha ibn Musarrif (d.112) kissing each other's hand, and the same Talha kissing the hand of Malik ibn Mighwal (d. 159), and Sufyan ibn `Uyayna and Fudayl ibn `Iyad kissing the hand and foot of Husayn ibn `Ali al-Ju`fi (d. 203) respectively.
Narrations of the Prophet relevant to kissing the hand of the ulama:

1. Usama ibn Sharik narrates: "I came to see the Prophet while his Companions were with him, and they seemed as still as if birds had alighted on top of their heads. I gave him my salam and I sat down. [Then Beduins came and asked questions which the Prophet answered.] ... The Prophet then stood up and the people stood up. They began to kiss his hand, whereupon I took his hand and placed it on my face. I found it more fragrant than musk and cooler than sweet water."Ibn al-Muqri' in al-Rukhsa (p. 58 #2) narrates it with a chain which Ibn al-Hajar graded as "strong" (sanaduhu qawiy) in Fath al-Bari (1989 ed. 11:67) and he listed it among the "good" (jayyid) narrations of Ibn al-Muqri' on the topic. Imam Bayhaqi included it as part of the proofs for the fact that giving honor to the Prophet is part of faith in Chapter 15 of his Shu`ab al-iman entitled: The Fifteenth Branch of Faith, Namely A Chapter On Rendering Honor To The Prophet, Declaring His High Rank, And Revering Him (al-khamis `ashar min shu`ab al-iman wa huwa babun fi ta`zim al-nabi sallallahu `alayhi wa sallama wa ijlalihi wa tawqirih). Ibn al-I`rabi narrated it with a stronger chain yet in his book al-Qubal.
   It is partially narrated, without the mention of the kiss, by Abu Dawud (#3855), Tirmidhi (2038 -- hasan sahih), Ibn Majah (3436), al-Hakim (4:399), and Ahmad (4:278).

   To issue fathawa there are so many rules and regulations  to be covered and steps to be followed  by a Mufthi and meanwhile please understand the context that its not Mowlana Shaykh Nazim who kissing the hands of women(to make this an unwanted issue) but its rather the women folks, his mureedas, muhibbeens, reverts, non Muslims who do so when they see him.(Therefore for those claim that they can collect fathwas if they do, the first step is to do it against the Mureeds individually and then after that let's see about the Shaykh)
   
   Based on the nature on Fatwa intimidation of this kind, so far there's nothing warranted against Mowlana Shaykh Nazim and even if its there, its based on pure jealousy which others cannot comprehend or have the capability to meet him in Lefke,Cyprus and sort this face to face.
   
   Any fathawa to be issued his humble students are inshaallah ready to address them, with his permission.   
   
   
   Q: Why does Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani allow ladies to kiss his hands but rather why can't he chase the ladies away or at least send them else where?
   
   First of all don't confuse Mowlana Shaykh Nazim into some Movlavi who has 50-60 followers of some Sufi order! No that's not Shaykh Nazim!
   
   What a way this question is put forward? A Sufi to chase people off? That too for a Seyed Ahlul-bayth (a member of the prophets household/lineage) to chase people away...? How Prophetic can this be, as a Sufi literally will be a calm one and not from those who always get angry and jump into others hearts and feelings make them disturbed to chase people away! The Awliya are one of an kind who peoples harts get attracted to with love and they don't get attracted with the opposite energy which is hatred!
   
   How would you feel when out of love and affection you approach a certain person and that person jumps into you and chases you away! Now is this the sunnah of huzhoor sallahualahihiwasallim? No this is not but we yet see people who chase potential Muslims away. How would these so called saints spread islam when they do not have adhab of themselves atleast?
   
   One should understand and keep in mind Mowlana Shaykh Seyed Nazim is nor ordinary shaykh, the services he has done towards Islam is great. 
   
   He, Mowlana Shaykh Nazim has converted alone about a Million followers and is the shaykh of Million more followers. You should also understand he has mureeds from almost every part of the world from east to the west! He has hundreds of centres/zawiyas dedicated for the spreading of Islam and for such a world personality when he visits every part of the world he's approached by all types of people who fall for his lovely charming face and akhlaq he shows, and when they come with their sorrows and pains hid behind their smiles, Mowlana Shaykh Nazim will embrace them with what they come and not chase them away!
   
   Please remember the Hadith sheriff of Prophet Sallahualahiwasallim "its worst to hurt a person than braking the Ka'bah" ( with similar words/ meaning)
   
   Other than the above the approach on the issue females kissing the hands of Mowlana Shaykh Nazim has been included too

   No this is wrong, its a misconception or probably poor research done by the questionnaire as there are many Non Naqshbandi Shuyukh who have done this practice (Of course not taking a ruling as its Halal) but with various other circumstances. Its sad to say only people accuse Mowlana Shaykh Nazim on this and not others.
   
   Q: A doctor may touch female patients but that doesn't justify for a Shaykh to touch his mureeds?
   
   Once again your mixing a clear element here...why should the Shaykh touch his mureeds? Its the Mureedas who kiss the hands of the shaykh and not the other way round.
   
   Now when coming to the matter, in Shariah everything is governed by law, how come you agree a Doctor can touch a patient?
   
   Aren't the shuyukhs the master Doctors of our hearts?
   
   Aren't every Shuyukh the spiritual Doctors of their patients who are the Mureeds?
   
   Once you find an answer for that in Shariah rest will also be clear
   
   Q: Some justify that Mowlana Shaykh Nazim allows his hands to be kissed by ladies because he is old but he has been doing this practice last 20 years!
   
   The fact on the age applies here and if you claim it was applied 20 years ago which means the Shaykh was 70 years of age still there is no problem.

   If you have any issues with Mowlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani out of jealousy,hatred or anything you may communicate this matter to any Awliya you know, if you can't do that ( if your spiritual state is so weak that you can't atleast do that) then you may pray Isthikara and dua on this. None can deny Isthikara is wrong as that will challenge even Sharia'athullah!

Regarding Women Kissing the hands of the Shuyukh

The following text is taken from observations of two murids, as arranged by me in order to clarify the question:
When Sheikh Nazim first arrived in the West he was still very much using the adab of Damascus, which meant he did not even look ladies in their eyes, and they were only allowed to kiss the sleave of his coat. But he was then made aware of the fact that such attitude, while indeed islamically correct, at the same time raised difficult barriers to people completely new to Islam in the West, and in Islam, as per hanafi fiqh (Maulana’s madhhab) there is also another stance that, if its conditions were met, could be used for the benefit of da’wah of Islam.


Allah Most High said, addressing shaytan: {You will have no power over My servants, only over the ones who go astray and follow you} (15:42).

The key words are “lets” and “allow.” There is a big difference between allowing (out of mercy) and wanting (out of lust). The contemporary Mauritanian Shaykh Abd Allah bin Bayya` was asked about this and he replied: “If it causes rancor (tabaghud) not to handshake then it is permissible, far from sexual interest in the woman.” This is why Shaykh Nazim’s da`wa in the West has towered over that of all others without exception.

Here is an excerpt from an interview with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim that took place in the nineties:

INTERVIEWER: If you were to tell your followers not to address you as the perfect one, not to kiss your hands and feet – and they say that in meetings even women come and kiss your hands, and the Prophet would never allow that… I want your comments on that?

SHAYKH NAZIM: No. They are always untrue people. They are always changing things from their real light. They are liars. They make iftira‘ [fabrications] and backbiting, because they are hasud – jealous, envious people. I never say to my followers that I am ‘a perfect one.’

But until they find a perfect one, I am only training them. I never said that I am a 100% perfect trainer but I am a good opportunity; while I am here, I only try to do my best with people. Like a doctor who is not a specialist, but still he must treat his patients. Should he say: I cannot touch you because I am not a specialist? I never said to anyone: ‘I am a 100% perfect person and I am training you: Come and kiss my hands!’ I am not so foolish as  these people. They are thinking that I say to people come and kiss my hand!

INTERVIEWER: They say that it is a necessary part of your training…

SHAYKH NAZIM: No, never. My training is written in my books and the associations I hold, but they are not reading my books because shaytans are so proud. Can they find it anywhere that I say: Kiss my hand, kiss my feet? But I may enter through a crowd and without doing anything, people are completely unable to remain seated, they will stand up. I am not saying to them to do it. It is something granted to me, from the greatness of Allah, called haybat [dignity]. They can’t stop. When I pass, they stand up and rush to me. I am not telling them to. Once I was in Madina praying, facing Qibla. As I was finishing, one of these people said to me: ‘O shaykh! Why did you bring all these people behind you!’ I was surprised. My eyes were closed and I was making du`a without sound, only what I may hear. But I looked around and I saw 100 people behind me. I said I am nobody, I am an ordinary person, a visitor here. I do not know them. Why are you telling me this? Tell those people to go away! Prophets have a magnetic power called jazba [attraction]. That makes people run to that person. I have some of that which I received through our spiritual way. I am not an empty one, like those people. But they are hussad [enviers]… What happens if my followers kiss my hand? The Prophet – blessings upon him – kissed the Stone, and all Sahaba kissed the Stone. All the Hujjaj [pilgrims] kiss the Stone, and the Ka`ba. It is not haram to kiss the Ka`ba. Is the Ka`ba more honored than Man? No.

INTERVIEWER: But the Ka`ba has a special place in their hearts.

SHAYKH NAZIM: We have a special place also.

Question:
We are still seeing some people who object about Mawlana Shaykh Nazim calling himself the Sultan al-Awliya. Also they repeatedly bring up the objection of kissing his hand.

Answer:
wa `alaykum salam,
Shaykh Hisham has clarified, that Mawlana Shaykh never claimed to be Sultan al-Awliya, rather it is his mureeds who consider him so. He only says “I am nothing; I am the most humble servant of Allah; I am the most weak and helpless one.”
Regarding the kissing of hands, Mawlana Shaykh himself addressed this in detail (excerpted from interview on Sufismus-online):

Q: People object on your hands being kissed.

S.N: I am not a sultan. Let people go and kiss their hands! These people are envious, because they are not giving full respect to their Lord. If they were, people would respect them. Maybe I am respected in the Divine Presence and that is why people run up to me. I am not begging people to come up to me and to kiss my hands! They rush on me from all over the world and I do not tell them to go away. Why should I? Are my hands dirty? If they were I would prevent it.

But the hands of the people who oppose this are dirty with their dirty works. When people come close to a blessed person they feel familiarity and want to kiss and embrace. When a person wants to show their respect by kissing the hand it is not prohibited in the Islamic Shariah. No-one can bring any evidence that Muhammad* did not allow it.

Q: But not only men are kissing your hand, but women too. Is that allowed in Islam?

S.N: Do they have evidence on that? If that was prohibited we would not be allowed to approach our women. They have no fiqr [sic - fiqh]. (Quran, Surat 4, Ayat 43 {or ye have been in contact with women} and Surat 5, Ayat 6 {or ye have been in contact with women}). You may touch.

Q: For the mahram, or…?

S.N: [Surat] ..an-Nissa, is alif lam [I.e. al-nisaa] a sign for all women, or just for some? There is a secret reality there: You can touch a lady, but if your ego awakes with a bad desire it is prohibited. A person may touch his daughter or his mother and it is not prohibited. He may touch his wife and it could be prohibited. Nothing awakes in a person with his mahram, but if it is not a mahram it is dangerous. That is why the Shariah prevents you to touch without a reason. Otherwise a doctor couldn’t touch the body of a woman. No-one objects to the millions of ladies who every day go to the doctor and show everything. It did not exist at the time of the Prophet (s). When they give birth they show themselves completely! How can that be? Why do people not complain about that? Instead they come to me, a person who is 80 years old!

The Shariah does give the permission for the hands of prophets and their inheritors to be kissed. I do not tell the ladies to come and kiss my hand. No! They come to give their respects. I cannot refuse it, because I am calling Europeans, non Muslims, into Islam. They are still new and if I would prevent them from kissing my hand their hearts would be broken. They would accuse Islam of having no gentleness. We are not living in Saudi Arabia, Libya, Algeria, Turkey, Iran or in Pakistan! I am calling people here, in Europe. This is why we can use the methods which the Prophet (s) was using at the beginning of Islam. People at that time were also not using scarves. For the first 13 years in Mecca, they were mixing freely with men and not wearing scarves. All that came in Medina. The people who are accusing me of these points have no understanding of Islam. They are scholars, but empty!

Q: According to the Hanafi school what are the rules of a woman touching you without desires? Would you need an ablution?

S.N: All the four schools of thought were going to agree on this point, but then Imam Shafi prevented it. He wanted to close the door of fitna which arises through young people touching each other. Abu Hanifa gave the permission under a condition: if your feelings do not change and become haram, it is all right. If they do, it is prohibited in the school of Abu Hanifa too. When feelings change, our body awakens and we discharge, making our wudu invalid.

Regarding Shaykh Gibril Haddad, he explains this as follows.

“From the Shari`a viewpoint hand-contact between the sexes is wrong for someone who is not old. At the same time it is a fact that the conditions of da`wa in the West for a Sufi Shaykh who is completely accessible to hundreds of people a day on any given trip are such as to make contact unavoidable. It has nothing to do with a brains-vs.-heart opening. It is a practical matter.

The strongest proof for the conditional licitness of this particular situation for the da`i is probably the hadith of Anas in al-Bukhari, that the slave-women of Madina would take the Prophet (s) by the hand to ask whatever need they had.

The meaning of this is that even the lowest and least educated level of society had complete free access to him (s) and that there was not one iota of haughtiness in him, hence al-Bukhari placed this report in the chapter on kibr in the book of adab in his Sahih.

This is a prooftext for the leeway of at the very least a passive handshake for the da`i in the West – and Allah knows best.”

I heard from Suhayl al-Omani in Damascus this May 2002, from his teacher Shaykh `Isa al-Himyari of Dubai that when Shaykh `Isa was in Germany some years ago with Mawlana he witnessed a woman making her way to Mawlana and kissing his hand. Shaykh `Isa in his heart said: “This ought not to be, you are a respected Shaykh who should not breach the Shari`a.”

Shaykh `Isa said that Mawlana [Shaykh Nazim] turned to him and said: “I know what you said. Remind me to tell you about it later.” Later, Mawlana said to him that he did not use to allow this and that the Western ladies felt relegated to an inferior status. He then saw the Prophet (s) in a dream and the Prophet (s) gave him permission to let them kiss his hand”. [I add:] Hence the change in approach, as a dream is a strong point for the one who received the dream, and it is confirming a legal opinion for conditional exceptional circumstances (that is, the dream was not establishing shariah, merely pointing from the highest authority of Shariah to a possibility already considered inside Shariah).

In conclusion, as far as can be ascertained the position of Mawlana [Shaykh Nazim] in the matter is:

(1) `Umum al-balwa – the prevalence of general ignorance of Islam, necessitating complete availability of the transmitters of Islam to the public including in customary contacts such as handshake or handkissing;

(2) Da`wa in the West, whose unprecedented nature necessitates unprecedented measures, especially since in the West the avoidance of any physical contact with the opposite sex is regarded as insulting and demeaning, just as the avoidance of eye contact;

(3) Mawlana’s age”

As for the silsila issue, besides what has been already mentioned, it is very simple. I quote one of Maulana Shaykh Nazim's words on it to a talin of ilm who made questions on it:

Brother: In the research about you, there is something that says, it was criticised that Sheikh Nazim lets women kiss his hand. How can we answer them with this study I am making?

Moulana: Say that, "Sheikh Effendi keeps the Order of Divine Law, Shariat!" Our school is Hanafi, not Shafi, it does not break our Wudu (ablution).

Brother: I have my contact information here, I will continue my research. I am also in contact with Sheikh Mohammad Effendi, if you have any order I may do. I reside in Kars but I do my PhD in Ankara.

Moulana: We are not the one to order. We are common people, who struggle on this way. There are great ones above, what can I do? If they give me responsibility, I can handle, with the permission of Allah. We reach from East to West. When they don't give me a mission, I am here like this, sitting here in a helpless position. What can I do? Do we fight with people for the Tariqat?

This is in the way of Allah. Wherever a person finds the spiritual comfort, enlightenment, if there is a spiritual fountain of light, they may drink from it. We don't have anything such as jealousy. That feeling is finished in us long time ago. But they say that, "our Sheikh has spiritual light", OK, go to him then. Whomever he left behind to replace him, continue with him, in the way of Allah. This is not an earthly trade.

If you have someone among you, who can consult the great ones, he may ask to the Master of the Naqshi Order, Shah al Naqshband: "Is this person in the Golden Chain? Is he a true one or a liar?" If they have men who can speak to Shah al Naqshband! If not, they may ask to the spiritual presence of their own Sheikh. If they have such men who can ask. They may ask Hasan Burkey as well. They may ask Sheikh Sami Effendi Hadrat. How many more awliya's were there?

Brother: There was Iskender Pasha.

Moulana: They may ask the spiritual presence of all awliyas that passed away:"is this person authorised or not?" they may ask. If we had permission, then we would already..we are only an ordinary mureed, we are trying to be mureed. We don't have a claim for this world, finish! What will I do with it now?

Fatwa Question or Essay Title: 

Is it permissible for men and women to occasionally shake hands?

The basic ruling is that it is not permitted for a man to shake hands with a woman. However, the Hanafi school allows shaking hands with an elderly woman. Perhaps the questioner is from an African country where not shaking hands can lead to embarrassment, aversion, and the like. In this case, it is permissible to shake a woman's hand if it is without any desire for or interest in this woman. However, if she is beautiful, or if there is desire for her, it is not permissible under any circumstances to shake her hand.

هَل تَجُوزُ مُصافَحَةُ النِّساءِ للرِّجالِ بِحالٍ مِنَ الأَحوالِ؟. الجواب الأَصلُ أنَّ الرَّجُلَ لا يُصافِحُ المَرأَةَ. لَكِن؛ إذا كانَت عَجُوزاً فَمَذهَبُ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ تَعالى أنَّ مُصافَحَتُها تَجُوزُ. ورُبَّما أَنَّ السائلَ يَسألُ ـ وهوَ فِي بَلَدٍ إفرِيقِيٍّ ـ فَيَقُولُ: إنَّ عَدَمَ المُصَافَحَةِ يُؤَدِّي إلى حَرَجٍ وتُؤَدِّي إلى تَباغُضٍ ونَحوِ ذَلِكَ. فَإذا كانَت تُؤَدِّي إلى ذَلِكَ فَيَجُوزُ لَهُ أن يُصافِحَ بَعِيداً عَن الشَّهوَةِ وبَعِيداً عَن الاهتِمام بِالمَرأَةِ. أَمّا إذا
